"REDWOOD CITY, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 11, 2007--Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ:ERTS) today announced an agreement with Elevation Partners to acquire VG Holding Corp. -- the owner of both BioWare Corp. and Pandemic Studios. This acquisition gives EA a strong competitive position in key genres in interactive entertainment: action, adventure and role-playing games. The two studios have been recognized for creating some of the highest-quality games in the industry."

My first impressions upon hearing about this news...

and...

Very disappointed upon hearing this news. Given EA's track record of buying studios and ruining them.(Westwood) Now I know people will be saying that maybe EA is changing and will let BioWare have their independence and allow them to keep making the kinda of gamest they make without interference from EA. Well I say bullshit to that, until EA proves that it will not interfere with the creativity of BioWare and not force them to release games early to meet certain release dates or god forbid yearly iterations of games. (Mass Effect 09 featuring EA Trax)

The only way this is good news of any kind(for anyone but EA) is as I said EA does not interfere and only provides financial backing to BioWare and publishing.

Now I've been hearing that this deal happened to make a quick buck(more like 800 milion bucks) and that a lot of employees will quit to go form a new studio.

We'll see in good time, but at the moment post Mass Effect(November 20, 2007) BioWare could very well end up just being EA crap... :(:(

For those of you who haven't seen the Mass Effect Trailers yet here is one.
